Polecam are the recognised designers and originators of a super lightweight, highly portable, low profile and versatile crane system that can be deployed and relocated in less than 10 minutes. Constructed from hi-grade aluminium, the backend section provides the main structure of the rig and accommodates the integral counterbalance system. Declassified military specification Carbon Fibre is used for the crane arm - this technology provides a super low profile, high strength rigid platform for any professional or amateur film maker alike.
Created in response to demand for a simple yet effective modular camera crane for Camcorders such as the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Sony NEX FS700, Panasonic AF101, Canon C300&500 and for D-SLR cameras, the Polecam Starter Pack (PSP) and Polecam Starter Pack PLUS (PSP+) are a great way to enter the exciting world of camera jibs and getting those long sweeping crane shots.
In order to properly accommodate the comparatively bulky Camcorders and D-SLR cameras, Polecam decided to undertake a full re-design of their award winning remote controlled Pan & Tilt head. The new designs had to be able to cope with significantly increased load and have greater flexibility for the larger camera dimensions.
Our engineers came up with an all new electronic head design which offers superb control characteristics, precise damping and inspired flexibility!
There are currently 3 new head designs:

Polecam is the crane unleashed!
Imagine a 7m crane you can put anywhere (in a boat, a pick-up, a golf cart, or on a harness!), a crane you can set up in under 10 minutes, and then move anywhere you like in seconds. Polecam delivers all the production value of a typical jib - in less space, with less weight and much faster set up time.

Polecam's 'secret' is technology. For 10 years Polecam has been developing and refining the best in the latest technologies to take the jib into the 21st century. Carbon fibre is stronger than steel yet lighter than aluminum. Micro-motors provide zero-backlash control for smooth and steady moves. Broadcast quality mini-camera systems give you images to rival their full-sized counterparts. All of these combine to make Polecam a cutting-edge production tool for your production needs.

A Polecam system consists of the following units;

An ultralight support pole made of carbon fibre, that can vary in length from 4 to 26 feet (1.22 to 8.54 metres) in 1.22 metre sections. Make it as short or as long as the job requires

A pan & tilt head that allows for 1000 degrees of horizontal rotation (that´s just about 3 full revolutions) and 280 degrees of vertical rotation − this allows you maximum control over the camera´s POV

An option of the new Narrow or Wide head (extra cost option); you will also need the control cable for the new heads (no need to change the joystick though)

An optional 7" high-res monitor to watch the shot as you´re making it happen; new monitors come with waveforms to make sure your exposure is dead on (extra cost option)

A joystick controller from which you run the pan&tilt head, all aspects of the controller can be customized; speed/direction/etc

An interface unit which makes the all the power and control connections easy to assemble

A harness and tripod mount − whether you choose to wear your rig or to mount it on a tripod for smoother movement is up to you − it goes back and forth in seconds

A full set of Polecam covers for weather/rain protection and a set of soft bags that the rig packs down into.

You will need: - a suitable tripod (100mm bowl, minimum 16kg capacity), counter weights (standard 1" dumbbells, 2 x 5kg + 2 x 7.5kg give a good spread of weight options)

You may want to consider flight cases - we offer SKB items that the soft bags fit perfectly.

Once you´ve put the system together you add a camera – we specialise in supplying the most suitable cameras for Polecam. There are numerous broadcast quality competitively prices options out there − Finally throw on your batteries and you´re ready to go!

Those shooting in the field without a truck may choose to add a recorder − HD/SD − tape/hard drive and flash recorders are all available and the system works with all industry standard connections.

The Wide Head by Polecam is specially designed for D-SLR Cameras and benefits from full electronic control with pulse encoded Faulhaber motors used for both pan and tilt operations. The head uses a 12 bit PID motion controller to regulate the pan and tilt axis via a closed loop configuration meaning you get an extremely accurate and easily controllable head. This head can move up to 30 times slower than previous versions and can also do a full 360º in just 7 seconds. The Wide Head is backwards compatible with most Polecam rigs (using up to five sections). Weight:  1394g / 3.07lb(US) Max payload: 3.6kg / 8lb Overall height (pivot to base): 500mm/19.6" Max load height on cradle: 240mm / 9.45" Max load width on cradle: 200mm / 7.87" Base plate: 100mm / 3.94" depth slotted centre with two slots either side at 20mm / 0.78" intervals, slot width is 6.5mm / 0.255" To facilitate unlimited panning the Wide Head has power and monitoring options built in via slip rings on the head, designed to monitor a composite signal the BNC actually handles HD SDI which is a useful bonus! (for monitoring purposes only) Power is provided to enable camera DC adapters to be used and there is an iris drive power outlet for our small iris drive motors (used with split head Toshiba cameras and similar mini cams).
The Wide Head is designed with flexibility in mind and you can detach the Polecam mounting bracket drop arm (4 screws) and that will reveal a 3/8 UNC threaded plate screwed to the drop arm, remove this and screw it to the top of the Wide Head. Attach the inverted head to whatever suits your intended use.

Wide-Head

The Wide Head is great for 3D with two mini cams side by side using our optional 3D mounting plate. Due to the load capacity and the ability to re position the mounting cradle the Wide Head can take a wide variety of cameras; we have tested it with Canon 5D and 7D cameras as well as the Panasonic AF101 (restricted tilt due to the height of the viewfinder).

Narrow Head Dimensions
Weight:  1.35kg / 2.97lb Max payload:  1.81kg / 4lb
Overall height (pivot to base): 41.2cm / 16.25”
Max load height on cradle: 15.2cm / 6”
Max load width on cradle: 8.9cm / 3.5”
Base plate: 5.1cm / 2” depth Slotted centre with two additional slots either side at  1.98cm/0.78” intervals, slot width is 6.5mm/0.255”

Polecam’s all new electronic hot head is a versatile remote control pan/tilt unit for either on Polecam use or as a stand alone remote hot head. To facilitate unlimited panning the Narrow Head has power and monitoring options built in via slip rings on the head. A power tap (Hirose), monitoring (BNC) and an iris drive connection (4-pin binder) are provided. The Narrow Head is designed with flexibility in mind and you can detach the Polecam mounting bracket drop arm (4 screws) and that will reveal a 3/8 UNC threaded plate screwed to the drop arm, remove this and screw it to the top of the Narrow Head. Attach the inverted head to whatever suits your intended use.
The main difference between the Wide and Narrow head is the use of different gearboxes and gearing.
The Narrow Head maximum pan speed is 2x faster than the Wide Head so it completes a 360 degree pan in 2.75 seconds. The slowest Pan speed is 360 degrees in 15 minutes which is about 15 times slower that the older Polecam heads. The Narrow Head uses a 12 bit PID motion controller to regulate the pan and tilt axis via a closed loop configuration meaning you get an extremely accurate and easily controllable head. The ramp up and down feature reduces violent head movement for smoother operation and we have a new feature called motor braking enabled when there's no joystick input.
The joystick profiling gives finer control at slow speeds and coarse control at high speeds for smoother operation.
The internal power supply management maintains operation from battery voltages ranging from 6v to 24v (max).  The Narrow Head is backwards compatible with most Polecam rigs as it can be controlled from a standard Polecam Joystick

Narrow-Head1

A brilliant and cost effective upgrade for all Polecam rigs, particularly effective with older Polecam carbon fibre poles. The Polecam Wires Strut System (WSS) delivers additional rigidity and reduces vibration during rapid movement, vehicle deployment and even outside in challenging weather conditions. The WSS can be used on a single pole rig, through to a full 7th Heaven setup at 8m (26'). Great for music and similar events where rapid crane movement is used.

The Polecam WSS has been developed using two Polecam Owner Operators to field test and recommend changes; the resulting finished product is simplicity itself!

The system has two main wires that are fully adjustable to your chosen length up to the maximum Polecam 7 sections (7th Heaven) which is 8m (26'). The main wires are attached with a simple loop wire at the head end, then they connect to the struts (a connecting wire links the struts to each other) which are fixed to a clamp positioned near the monitor on the Polecam rig and finally they are routed to the rear section where another loop wire connects the system. Fine tuning of the wire tension is done with the special adjusters fitted to the wires. No tools are required.

Fitting the Polecam WSS takes less than 5 minutes and is easily adjusted when you want to relocate or change your reach.

The system is supplied in a handy Cordura bag designed to keep everything neat and tidy as well as be tough enough to last.

In use the Polecam Wire Strut System instils great confidence as it makes the Polecam rig really stiff and so easy to use because flex, bounce and snake is eliminated. Now the impressive 8m (26') Polecam 7th Heaven is accessible to everyone.

All this for the price of a single piece of Polecam carbon Fibre!
Don't take our word for it though, please check out the reviews section below.
